BPI Welcomes Kevin Powell as National Technical Director

Saratoga Springs, NY: Building Performance Institute (BPI) is proud to welcome Kevin Powell as National Technical Director, beginning January 22nd, 2024. In this role Mr. Powell will lead the development and maintenance of building science technical resources, standards, certifications, and guidelines aligned with BPI’s mission to improve home comfort and energy efficiency and to create and maintain safe and healthy home environments.

Mr. Powell previously worked as technical lead at Redhorse Corporation supporting the U.S. Department of Energy, Residential Buildings Integration division. There he led the team supporting the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (HPwES) program, Home Energy Score program, and pilot efforts to utilize remote technologies for home assessments and quality assurance. 

Mr. Powell has over 30 years of experience as a building scientist, project manager, energy efficiency consultant and educator with clients ranging from undergraduate students to federal government.  His experience includes research, instruction, data analysis, technical and project management for a wide variety of projects related to building performance, code compliance, standards development, and sustainability.

In his spare time, Mr. Powell enjoys photography, bicycling, and being trained by his rescue dog Gifford.

BPI has been fortunate to have Mr. Powell’s participation in the Standards Technical Committee since 2014, most recently as its chair. Mr. Powell holds a wide variety of professional certifications including BPI Building Analyst, LEED Accredited Professional, and Home Energy Rater.

BPI is approved by the American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI) as an accredited developer of American National Standards and as a certifying body for personnel credentials.
