Pilot Period for BPI's Total Building Performance Certificate Extended to March 31

Saratoga Springs, NY: Building Performance Institute has extended the pilot period for the Total Building Performance Certificate of Knowledge (TBP) to March 31st, 2024.

The Total Building Performance Certificate of Knowledge (TBP), a new credential from the Building Performance Institute to promote deep energy retrofits, is available in pilot phase now.

The Certificate is the only one of its kind, designed to prepare individuals with the holistic knowledge to plan, assist, and guide residential deep energy retrofit projects to reduce energy consumption by 50% or more.

Advancing Deep Energy Retrofits in the Market

Deep energy retrofits achieve household energy reductions of at least 50% by addressing all major energy loads: space conditioning; hot water; lighting; solar energy installation, appliances and plug loads. They may also address on-site power generation and electrical/thermal storage and prepare the electrical system to support electric vehicles.
The TBP was developed to ensure customer satisfaction through a deep energy retrofit and maximize residential energy and emissions savings.
Home performance professionals who want to help customers significantly reduce home energy consumption will benefit from earning the TBP.

Earning the TBP

The TBP certificate is earned by passing an online exam. Training modules were developed by EFG and are available for free, hosted by NEEP. Candidates can find instructions and apply to challenge the exam at  https://www.bpi.org/total-building-performance-certificate.
The pilot Total Building Performance Certificate exam is free to the first 500 exam takers, on the first attempt. If a candidate must re-challenge the exam to obtain a passing score, there will be a fee for the second attempt.

BPI Certified Professionals can earn 10 BPI Continuing Education Units by earning the TBP.

Pilot Period Extended

The pilot period has been extended until March 31st, 2024. Interested candidates can register at the BPI certificate portal and access the training modules now to complete the process by the close of the pilot period. Please note that passing scores will not be determined until after the pilot process is complete.  At that time, takers will be notified of their score, awarded the certificate if successful, and CEUs will be applied.
