The Jon Siemen Memorial Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Jon Siemen, BPI’s dedicated Technical Relations Representative, who made a lasting impact on the building performance community before his passing in 2015. Each year, this scholarship supports four outstanding professionals by covering the costs of their BPI online and field exams, along with training and exam coordination.
This year’s announcement also recognizes Steve Johnson for his long and dedicated career in building performance. In Steve’s honor, donations were made to the Jon Siemen Memorial Scholarship fund, ensuring more professionals will benefit from this opportunity for years to come.
We’re proud to announce this year’s recipients:
- Amber Johnson will be applying her scholarship towards the Infiltration and Duct Leakage (IDL) certification exam.
- Jessica Azarelo is applying her scholarship toward the Healthy Housing Evaluator (HHE) certification.
- Ricardo Lopez is pursuing the Multifamily Building Analyst (MFBA) certification exams.
A Tribute to Steve Johnson
Steve worked at Sustainable Resources Center (SRC) for 38 years where, as the Technical Director, he was a trainer who influenced many in the field. His work included writing a program for ASHRAE ventilation standards for DOE weatherization projects, helped SRC become a BPI test center, trained BPI courses and was a course instructor for lead-safe practices.
Steve was a pillar in the Minnesota building science community and shared his knowledge with staff, contractors, policy makers and was the go-to person for difficult building science problems or weatherization related issues. Along with his depth and breadth of building science knowledge, he kept things amusing by sharing what National Day it was with his staff.
