The BPI management staff brings several decades of combined experience in administration, contracting, and building science applications to BPI, providing the core resources for program implementation and production.
Chief Executive Officer
With over 30 years of experience in the residential buildings sector, Larry has managed the national expansion of BPI’s standards, credentialing and quality assurance programs as BPI's CEO since 2006. Under his leadership BPI’s active certifications have increased from 1,000 to more than 22,000 nationwide. He has led the expansion of BPI’s network of independent testing organizations that deliver BPI exams in the marketplace. The network has grown from 40 organizations in 2008 to more than 150 organizations today. In 2010, Larry directed BPI’s successful effort to become an ANSI accredited standards development organization, and in 2012 BPI achieved ANSI accreditation as a certifying body. Prior to his work with BPI, he served as Vice President of Marketing with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center, where he worked for 20 years.
Chief Operating Officer
Bruce joined BPI in May of 2011 and now holds the position of Chief Operating Officer. A 25-year veteran of the environmental certification and accreditation field, Bruce led multiple American National Standards Institute accreditation and certification committees in the review of ISO standards and approval of certification bodies. He most recently served as Vice President of Certifications for the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), where he was responsible for the certification of buildings to the LEED ratings systems. Prior to joining GBCI, DeMaine founded Precision Preservation and Inspection (PPI), a consulting firm specializing in areas of ISO quality systems, strategic planning, business process improvement, environmental compliance and safety initiatives. Before launching PPI, DeMaine spent ten years as Director of Corporate QA, Facilities and Safety for NSF International, a public health and safety company located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
National Technical Director
John has 20 years of experience in the home energy upgrade field as a program manager, building science instructor and practitioner. As National Technical Director he provides oversight and direction to BPI’s certification, accreditation and quality assurance operations, and oversees the technical direction of BPI’s standards development activities. Prior to joining BPI, John managed the NYSERDA Home Performance with ENERGY STAR and New York State ENERGY STAR Programs, with an annual budget of over $20 million.
Hannah C. Wood
Marketing and Communications Director
Hannah joined BPI in 2016, and develops BPI’s communications strategy for optimal success across online, print and broadcast media. She builds relationships with the media and external stakeholders to maximize brand and demand for BPI standards and credentials. Hannah previously worked for Sentech, Inc. (now CSRA) for five years as a Project Manager of Marketing and Communications. She and her team spearheaded the award-winning Maryland Home Performance with ENERGY STAR. Her clients included the U.S. Department of Energy, the Maryland Energy Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Hannah worked under Bill Zwack, a long-time veteran of the residential energy efficiency industry. Hannah earned her MBA from Warwick Business School in Coventry, England. She received her Master’s in Communication from Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. and her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Director of Operations
Matt joined BPI in 2001 and now holds the position of Director of Operations. He is responsible for the development, maintenance and operations of our national certification program, as well as the development of a growing network of BPI test centers and proctors that deliver BPI certification exams. Matt’s background is in residential, commercial, and industrial construction. He has provided home performance analysis on numerous residential projects.
Manager of Standards
Susan Carson has been involved in the building performance industry for over a decade, previously working under New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® and ENERGY STAR Labeled Homes Programs to provide services that supported the development and delivery of related training statewide. In August 2011, Ms. Carson joined the staff of BPI and currently serves as the Manager of Standards, coordinating the activities of the Standards Technical Committees and working groups to ensure timely, effective standards development procedures and compliance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) protocol.
Manager of Major Accounts
Nancy joined BPI in 2009. As Manager of Major Accounts she ensures consistent customer service relationships with state and utility energy efficiency programs, BPI Test Centers and other clients. She also implements plans to improve short and long term sales, client relations and customer service. Nancy has a background in child and family services, as well as accounting work. She previously worked for Wildwood School and St. Anne’s Institute, as well as the Saratoga School of Ballet.
Manager of Certifications
Lynn joined BPI in 2010 and is responsible for the delivery of our national certification program. Lynn and her team recently automated the Certification Welcome Packet process. She has a 16 year background in management in the Private Banking industry and previously managed the Home Care division with a medical supply company.
Manager of Finance and Human Resources
Geri joined BPI in 2005. She is responsible for all financial operations and acts as liaison to our accounting firm. She has an extensive accounting background and held various positions in that field. Geri previously worked for the Food Industry Alliance of NYS, the Michaels Group and the Galesi Group.
